The Bridge to ALDRIDGE

A brief history of my ALDRIDGE ancestry.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Newton Le Willows, Lancashire, United Kingdom

An only child born on a sunny Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm (is that why I'm so lazy LOL!) at the new Whiston Hospital Maternity Wing (there's press cuttings to prove it). It was the year of the Ox and it was on the cusp of Virgo and Libra (so that's why I can't make up my mind LOL!) Spent the first four years of my life moving around the St Helens area with my parents, finally settling in Newton-Le-Willows and remained there until I was 22, when I decided to try and find my fame and fortune in Manchester. Sadly I wasn't destined to find it there but I had some really great times. Ill health seems to have been the factor which slowed me down after this. I left the bright lights of the city and had a brief spell at my friend Michael's home on the outskirts of Leigh, before moving to Warrington at the end of 2004. I then returned to my "home" town of Newton Le Willows in April 2007 but still spent a fair amount of time in Leigh. I think it has something to do with the "ancestral seat" of Bonny Well, Pennington, Leigh! lol ;-)

Great Grandfather ALDRIDGE

William John ALDRIDGE
(1873 - 1932)

Sadly I do not have a picture of him.

He died in 1932 aged 58 at the hospital in Smithdown Road, Toxteth Park; he was resident at 8 Rankin Street, Toxteth Park and was described as a Team Owner's Carter.

I am unaware of his role in the 1st WW at this time.

In 1901 he is with his wife and family at 5 House, 3 Court, Beresford Road, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. They had been married in 1892 at St James, Toxteth Park, Liverpool.

I find his mother, whom has made herself younger, remarried by 1901; his siblings are known as "Aldridge GARRAWAY" and two new half-siblings are all together under one roof at 52 Woodruff Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool:
(marriage speculations in brackets)
William Hy 31
Anne 39
Joseph Aldridge 23 (m. 1908, Nellie GARROWAY)
Robert Aldridge 22 (unknown)
Jane Aldridge 19 (m. 1903, Jacob BENNETT)
Ada Aldridge 17 (m. 1903, David T. HUGHES)
Samuel Aldridge 15 (m. 1913, Martha J. MAKIN)
Lilly Aldridge 10 (m. 1917, William LEWIS)
Henry Thos 1 (died 1902, aged 2)
Albert Edwd 2 months (died before 1911)

In 1891 the ALDRIDGE family doesn't look much different, except that they are at 24 Tamworth St, Toxteth Park, Liverpool and Ann is head of the household:
Ann 34 (widow)
William 17
Joseph 15
Robert Ed 13
Jane Lou 9
Ada 7
Samuel Jam 5
Lily Eliz 8 months

His father, John ALDRIDGE, died in 1890 aged 34 due to a sack of flour falling on to him, he was a carter of the above address and died at the Royal Southern Hospital, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. An inquest was held on 07th August 1890.

The 1881 census gives a very different picture, the family are living in the cellar of 20 Tamworth Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool:
John 25
Annie 24
William 7
Joseph 5
Robert E 3
Martha J(ane) 1 (she died later in that year, aged 1)

William John ALDRIDGE was actually born in November 1873 at 35 Tamworth Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, the first child of John ALDRIDGE and Ann ALDRIDGE (later GARRAWAY, nee STUBBS, aka KNOX).

My grandad Charles Cecil Aldridge was born in 1931 in Liverpool, my great grandad had the same name. I wonder if there's any relation
